As most of you know, Witnesses will be given 50 handbills each to distibute 3 weeks before their conventions. It would be great to produce our own counter-handbill and distribute it in the convention city 3 weeks before too. Can any one provide a scan of the JW one so I can make a counter-copy?

Judas Iscariot's reputation as one of the most notorious villains in history could be thrown into doubt with the release of an ancient text on Thursday.
The Gospel of Judas, a papyrus document from the 3rd or 4th Century AD, tells the story of Jesus' death from the fallen disciple's point of view.
Alleged to be a copy of an even older text, it casts Judas as a benevolent figure, helping Jesus to save mankind.
The early Christian Church denounced such teachings as heretical.
The 31-page fragile document, written in the Coptic language, was discovered in Egypt in the 1970s.
National Geographic Magazine in the US is to publish the first English translation of the text on Thursday.
For 2,000 years Christianity has portrayed Judas as the treacherous apostle who betrayed his divine master with a kiss, leading to his capture and crucifixion.
But the Gospel of Judas puts Judas in a positive light, identifying him as Christ's favourite disciple and depicting his betrayal as the fulfilment of a divine mission to enable the crucifixion - and thus the foundation of Christianity - to take place.
This view is similar to that held by the Gnostics - members of a 2nd Century AD breakaway Christian sect, who became rivals to the early Church.
They thought that Judas was in fact the most enlightened of the apostles, acting in order that mankind might be redeemed by the death of Christ.
As such they regarded him as deserving gratitude and reverence.
Gnostic writers are believed to have set down their contrasting account of Judas' role in Greek in about 150AD, and some believe that this manuscript may be a copy of that.
Records show that the leaders of the early Christian Church denounced that version as heretical in about 180AD.
The Gospel of Judas was found near Beni Masar in Egypt.
In 2000, the Maecenas Foundation for Ancient Art in Basel Switzerland took possession of the document and translation began soon afterwards.
National Geographic struck a publication deal with the foundation last year, thought to have cost $1m (£570,000).
In addition to the magazine article, the National Geographic TV channel will be running a special two-hour documentary on the manuscript on Sunday 9 April.

No Natural Affection
by misspeaches ini was talking to jh about this the other day.... this year will be the 3rd memorial i will have missed.
i've faded not disphellowshipped or disassociated.
to date i have not recieved an invitation to come along to the memorial for any of them.

We stop going to meetings and they just stop caring. If they had natural affection they wouldn't give up. They would at least attempt to try and help us.
If they could count the time you'd have lots of help. As it is- you're just not worth the 'time'. Real love in the 'truth' - it ain't there!
I remember one smug answer at the WT study about how the Org. shows love during a crisis like Katrina. Another answered ' sure, but why does it take a disaster before anybody in the organization cares!'
Exactly!

How secure are the GB?
by vitty ini was thinking today, how secure are the governing body?
with all the hatred they have created over the years it wouldnt take much to send someone over the top and try to "exterminate" the ones who they feel are responsible for maybe a ruined marriage or life.. i cetainly wouldnt want to be in their shoes.
but i wounder how they feel, do you think they feel secure and safe.
-
James Free
And what do you think would happen if ALL the GB died, all at once, say they all got food poisoning.
Well, they already got 'spiritual food' poisoning. If they all died the next scumbag in line would take over and all would continue as before - though they might change the chef!

To all Active JW's on the board
by UNCLEAR inas you are all aware i am new to the board, this is my third topic post.
since i have come online and expressed some concerns regarding docturnal issues, i have been pm'd by several active jw's on the board pretending to have concerns also but then sending pm's to "trust in the congregation and jevovah", "talk to the elders about your concerns" and "stick close to the congregation".
i would like to make this known loud and clear -

Porneia is understood to involve the grossly immoral use of the genital organ(s) of at least one human;
This is the current 'understanding'. But it was not that way in the 70's and before. Then, penetration was the decider - meaning a lesbian relationship was not pornia. Now it can even mean masturbating via webcam.
Truth is, the GB decides what is and what is not a ground for divorce. Then the local elders interpret it and judge. That's why lives get messed up so much. What is allowed/not allowed one year or in one congregation is not allowed/allowed another year or in another congregation.
Meantime victims like you are given such bad advice! The GB carries the responsibility for this. Stop listening to the crappy opinions of others - do what your 'bible trained conscience' says is right.

The death of the Watchtower pre-study
by slimboyfat inwho is old enough to remember when witnesses used eagerly to meet on a friday or saturday night to "pre-study" the watchtower in groups: reading paragraphs, underlining, reading scriptures (sometimes)?.
what happened to that, does anyone still do it anywhere?
i think witnesses are just not as enthusiastic about the "truth" as they used to be.
-
James Free
I think part of the reason why very few Witnesses would pre-study these days is the decreasing quality of the WT study articles.
What's there to study? Two minutes information stretched into one hour of nothingness.

"Evil Slave" or Apostate which term do you prefer used on ex-JW's?
by booker-t ini hate both terms to describe ex-jws.
i know most people say "apostate" when they refer to an ex-jw that is an opposer now but some will say "so and so" is an "evil slave" now.
evil slave sounds so "boogie man under the bed" that i just laugh when i hear the term.
-
James Free
Exactly. They really don't get it!
First, the literature is written for dummies, then it's discussed at length until the points stick in your throat, THEN the rank-and-file still don't understand! No wonder so many used to just ask their favourite elder for his opinion rather than use their own brain!

If a Witness calls ex-witnesses 'evil slave' they clearly don't understand what they are saying (no surprise there!)
To be called 'Evil Slave' refers to the opposite of the 'Faithful Slave' - that is, one claiming to be of the anointed 144000 who turns apostate (doesn't believe the GB anymore)
To be called 'Apostate' is for the rest, not claiming to be anointed, who leave the Org. (You can even be called apostate for believing something which is later accepted as 'new light'! - amazing)
They are just words designed to scare the Witnesses into ignoring everything you say, even if backed up by scripture. Unfortunately, it works. That's why, if I get to talk to a Witness, I never reveal my past association but, as an 'interested one', innocently ask a question, already knowing the answer, but making them think!

Moving Congregations. Am I Allowed To Read The Letter The Elders Write?
by Diogenes ini've just moved congregations (it's the easiest way to keep people off your back!
) and the elders have received the letter written about me.. i've asked to read it to make sure there are no inaccuracies but the elders have refused point blank saying i'm not allowed.. i'm certain that under the data protection act i am allowed.. does anybody have any thoughts on this?
could you point me to anything the society have said?
-
James Free
The letter is not covered by the DPA. It must be an 'official form' to stand any chance of disclosure. Letters between elders do not count, since they are not 'official representatives' in the legal sense of the WT incorporated companies.
Even if you had a legal right, which you don't, the Org. would destroy the letter long before any court forced them to disclose it. If you took them to court, expect to be DF'd or considered DA'd by your actions.
These people know the law so well they don't have to follow it themselves!

A comment my Mom made
by Junction-Guy inmom and i were discussing some recent books on the catholic church, and mom said that supposedly the catholic church was holding some major secrets on the bible and that if the catholic people were to ever find out, they would literally destroy the catholic church and there would be rioting in the streets.
i told mom, "look at all of the children who have died from no blood, look at all of the people who forsook college education, look at all of the families destroyed, look at all of the children molested, look all of the lies of the wt society, and yet the wt society still flourishes, the catholic church would probably get through that too".
she just told me that they would tear that church apart.

Baseless gossip stemming from someone reading the Da Vinci Code. Good Book, maybe good film - but FICTION.
